Jack Leo Wood, 65, of Litchfield, died Thurs., Mar. 1, 2007 at 11:26 p.m. in St. John's Hospital in Springfield. He was born on Nov. 6, 1941 in Springfield, IL, the son of John Joseph Leonard & Mary (Bruseke) Wood. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served during the Pueblo Crisis during the Vietnam Conflict. He graduated from St. James Trade School in Riverton, IL, in 1959. He also attended Belleville Area College & Lewis University in Joliet, IL. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield where he had taught Sunday School for several years. He was employed as a coal miner at Monterey Coal Co. in Carlinville for 22 years. He was a member of United Mine Workers of America Local #1613. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking & refinishing furniture. He married Linda Lee Lehnert on June 22, 1974 in Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield. She survives. He is also survived by:

Steven, Daniel & Jonathan Sumpter of Litchfield;
Philip & Margaret Riley of Decatur
Sisters-in-law, Mary Jo (Dr. James) Riley of Decatur
Norma (David) Sumpter of Litchfield

He was preceded in death by his parents & foster parents, Sylvester "Dick" & Mary Holmer.

Funeral services will be held Mon., Mar. 5, 2007 at 11 a.m. in Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield. Rev. Donald Langhoff will officiate. Burial will be in Elm Lawn Cemetery in Litchfield. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m. in Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield.

The family suggests memorials to Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield.
