William Edward Steiner

William Edward Steiner, 76, of Litchfield, passed away Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at 5:45 p.m. at his residence. Mr. Steiner was born on June 17, 1945 in Granite City, IL, a son of Edward William and Frances (Cigich) Steiner.

Mr. Steiner was a 1963 graduate of Madison High School and later continued his education at Lincoln Land Community College and the University of Illinois at Champaign. He served in the United States Army for 9 years during the Vietnam War era. He married the former Mary Kay (Hines) Hahne on October 28, 1972 and she survives.

Mr. Steiner was a police officer for the city of Madison, IL and was later employed by the Illinois Department of Corrections at the Taylorville Correctional Center. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Madison and the VFW Post 3912 in Litchfield. He raised and showed horses and coached soccer for several years.

In addition to his wife Mary Kay, he is survived by 2 sons: Robert (Debbie) Steiner of California and Christopher (Bobbi Jo) Steiner of Litchfield. 3 daughters: Cherie Hahne of Granite City; Carolyn Steiner; and Sandra Bardsley of New York, New York. 1 sister: Patty (Richard) Anderson of Granite City. 10 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Steiner is proceeded in death by his parents; a sister Marie Beasley; infant grandson Chase Steiner.

Memorial graveside services for William Edward Steiner will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery at a later date.
