Willa Chumley Obituary

Willa Carol Chumley, 92, of Litchfield, passed away on Mon., May 10, 2021 at 5:30 a.m. in Heritage Health Therapy & Senior Care in Litchfield.  She was born on Jan. 15, 1929, in Danville, IL, a daughter of Walter William and Cleva Myrl (McCracken) Harding.  Willa graduated from Carlinville High School with the Class of 1947.  She went on to nursing school at Memorial Hospital in Springfield for 2 years.  She was a registered nurse at Barry Care Center/Heritage Health for several years.  Willa married Claude H. Gibson on Dec. 31, 1950.  They later divorced.  She married John Samuel Chumley on Sept. 23, 1960.  He preceded her in death on Feb. 14, 1984.  She was a member of St. Timothy United Methodist Church in Litchfield.  Willa was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary where she received several awards and accolades for her work.  She was active in Republican Women’s functions and received letters from several Presidents and politicians.  Willa was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling.  She is survived by:

2 sons, David W. Gibson of Helena, MT
              James E. Gibson of Litchfield

1 daughter, Ellen C. Chumley of Litchfield

1 brother, Robert W. Harding of Murphysboro, IL

Willa was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; 1 brother, Dean F. Harding.

Graveside funeral service will be held on Fri., May 14, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in Reno Bethel Cemetery in Reno, IL.  Rev. Jake Wetterlin of St. Timothy United Methodist Church will officiate.  Visitation will be held Friday from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. at Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield.  Memorials may be directed to the Paralyzed Veterans of America.
