Udell Lee Volentine, 85, of Litchfield, passed away on Wed., Feb. 12, 2020 at 5:05 a.m. in HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. He was born on July 8, 1934, in New Douglas, IL, a son of Dale Ulis and Irene Minnie Marie (Schweppe) Volentine. Mr. Volentine graduated from Litchfield High School with the Class of 1954. He married the former Lois Anne Ernst on July 10, 1955 at Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield. Mr. Volentine was employed as a bus driver for the Litchfield School district for several years, and at FS as a Petroleum Distributor. He also operated Volentine Oil Co. supplying Sunoco Oil Products. Mr. Volentine worked as a farm hand and grain hauler for Justison Farms and also at Rural King Farm store in automotive department. In retirement he served as a volunteer for the Litchfield Food Pantry. Mr. Volentine was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield where he served for 15 years as Sunday School Superintendent, and Elder for 3 terms. Mr. Volentine served as President of the men’s club and also the PTL organization of Zion Lutheran School as well as an usher captain for 25 years during the performances of “The Promise.” He enjoyed attending truck and tractor pulls to watch his grandson and granddaughter participate. Mr. Volentine was preceded in death by his parents and 1 brother, Delmar Volentine.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, Feb. 16, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. in Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield. Rev. Fred Kraemer of Zion Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be in Elm Lawn Cemetery in Litchfield. Visitation will be held Saturday from 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at Plummer Funeral Home. The family suggests memorials to Zion Lutheran Church or the Litchfield Food Pantry.
