Thomas Lloyd Saathoff, 69, of Litchfield, passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at 1:17 a.m. at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. Born November 20, 1954, in Litchfield, a son of Lloyd Thomas and Rachel Louise (Eliason) Saathoff.
Tom was raised on the family farm in rural Walshville, and graduated from Mt. Olive High School with the Class of 1972. Tom farmed with his parents and also worked at Shell Oil Refinery in South Roxana, IL., for several years. He was a member of the Christian Church of Litchfield. He loved building and restoring motorcycles and vintage Willys Jeeps. He was an avid reader of many subjects, mainly military history. He enjoyed going to Jeep meets and shows, traveling to national parks and battlefields, and going to tractor shows.
Tom married the former Karen Ann Sharp on September 15, 2001 at the First Baptist Church in Litchfield, and she survives. Additionally, Tom is survived by two sons; Kyle (Amber) Kalaher of Carlinville, Chad (Amber) Kalaher of Hillsboro, his daughter, Michelle Saathoff of Litchfield. Three grandchildren; Kassidie (fiancé, Emma Gansz) Hatlen, Alexsis Kalaher and Garrett Kalaher. His father and mother-in-law, Bill and Dorothy Sharp of Litchfield, Sister-in-law Donna Perkins, and brother-in-law Bob Sharp both of Litchfield, with several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Tom in death by his parents, his infant brother Gary L. Saathoff, brother Craig L. Saathoff and sister, Annette L. May.
A celebration of Tom’s life will be held Saturday, September 21, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Christian Church of Litchfield. The Rev. Tim Barbee will officiate. Visitation will be held form 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. A private committal of Tom’s ashes will be held following the service at Edgewood Cemetery in Litchfield. The family suggests memorials be directed to the American Heart Assn., or to Coats for Kids – Litchfield.
