Stephen Henry Miller, 96, a 5-year resident of the Villas of Holly Brook in Monticello, formerly of Raymond, Illinois, passed peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, January 7, 2025.
Stephen was born on July 12, 1928, in Newkirk, Oklahoma, to Joseph and Lena (Voegele) Miller. He graduated from Morrisonville High School and later attended Bailey Technical School in St. Louis, MO.
He joined the Army when he turned 18 in 1946 and was a veteran of the Korean War. After returning home, he married Wanda Boehler of Raymond, IL, and raised three children while working at Consolidated Communications and farming in Montgomery and Christian counties. He was a member of St. Raymond parish and the Raymond Council of the Knights of Columbus in Raymond, IL.
After retirement he enjoyed traveling, square dancing, tinkering around the house and being with his family and friends.
He is survived by:
his sister Mary Ann Huber of O'Fallon, MO;
his daughter, Tammy (Patrick) McLane of Oreana, IL; two sons, Dan (Donna) Miller of Denver, CO, and Andy (Jennifer) Miller of Sidney, IL; two grandsons, Brian McLane of Decatur, IL, and Dillon Miller of Denver, CO; and a multitude of nieces and nephews throughout Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, and Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Wanda (Boehler) of Raymond, IL; brother Albert of Harvel, IL; and two sisters: Cecilia of Belleville, IL, and Caroline of Springfield, IL.
The family would like to acknowledge The Villas of Holly Brook and Transitions Hospice for giving him the opportunity to spend his last days in a safe and familiar home.
Funeral services for Mr. Miller will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at St. Raymond’s Catholic Church in Raymond. Fr. Florent Kanga will preside. Burial will be in St. Raymond Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. The family respectfully asks that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Raymond Park District or the Village of Raymond Veteran's Memorial.
