Shirley J. Young

Shirley Jean Young, 85, of Springfield, formerly of Waggoner, passed away Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 4:50 p.m. in Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.  She was born on December 16, 1932 in Waggoner, IL, a daughter of Edwin and Opal (Davis) Nimmo. Shirley was a member of the Waggoner Christian Church in Waggoner. She was a homemaker and a big Illini basketball and St. Louis Cardinals fan. She enjoyed traveling and playing cards with her friends. She married Byron J. Nimmons and later was married to James A. Young. She is survived by:

2 sons,               Jerry Nimmons of Springfield, IL, Joel (Michelle) Nimmons of Fishers, IN

1 brother,         Tommy (Audrey) Nimmo of Chesapeake, VA

Mrs. Young was preceded in death by her parents; former husband; husband; a sister, Bernadine Owens, formerly of Harvel; and a brother, Gerald Nimmo, formerly of Farmersville.

Funeral services for Mrs. Young will be held Thursday, February 22,2018 at 1 p.m. at the Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. Burial will be in Asbury Cemetery in rural Raymond. Visitation will be Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to the American Lung Association, the American Heart Association, or Guiding Eyes.
