Sharon Elizabeth Wimberly, 71, of Litchfield, passed away Friday, July 19, 2024 at 9:11 p.m. at HSHS St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield.
Born in Litchfield, September 25, 1952, she was the daughter of Harry Albert and Wilma June (Atteberry) Grove. A graduate of Litchfield Community High School, Class of 1970. She married Richard Norman Wimberly on January 22, 1972 at the First Baptist Church in Litchfield.
Mrs. Wimberly was employed as the office manager at Nelson Audiology in Litchfield for over 30 years. Other work history includes Illinois Consolidated Telephone Co., Action Cycle and she was a sales representative of Avon products. Mrs. Wimberly was a member of First Baptist Church of Litchfield, she taught Sunday school for several years, played piano for services, and was a member of the church choir. She enjoyed traveling with her husband Rich, following her granddaughters’ activities, having family gatherings and doing activities on her computer. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan.
Mrs. Wimberly is survived by her husband, Richard. Her daughter, Stacie (Brad) Stanford of Bethalto, IL, and her son, Steven (Alisha) Wimberly also of Bethalto, IL., five granddaughters, Kaili Stanford, Taylor Stanford, Breann Jakich, Morgan and Claire Wimberly, several nieces and nephews. Additional family surviving are her Brother-in-law, Bob (Beth) Wimberly of Litchfield, Sisters-in-law; Cindy Grove of Litchfield, Sandy Kiefer of Chatham, IL., and Linda Wimberly of Springfield, IL. Mrs. Wimberly is preceded in death by her parents, and three brothers, Harry, Bruce and David Grove, and her father and mother-in-law, Louis and Lucille Wimberly.
Funeral services for Sharon will be held Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at 12:00 noon at the Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. Friends may call Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. The Rev. Rudy Elam, pastor of the Walshville Baptist Church will officiate, and burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery in Litchfield. The family asks memorials to be directed to either St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or to the Litchfield Food Pantry.
