Ruth Elaine (Liesman) Steffens

Ruth Elaine Steffens, 91, of Litchfield, passed away Saturday, October 19, 2024, at Litchfield Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born August 12, 1933, in Lincoln, IL, a daughter of Reynold H. and Cora C. (West) Liesman. She graduated from Hartsburg-Emden High School with the Class of 1951. She and Francis “Frank” Howard Steffens were married April 12, 1952, at Zion Lutheran Church in Lincoln, IL. He preceded her in death November 17, 1996. Over the years, Mrs. Steffens, known for her pleasant demeanor and smiling face, was employed by Dr. Gillenwater, DDS, Jim Stieren Agency of State Farm Insurance, and Bank & Trust Co. She and her husband Frank, co-owned Steffens Glass in Litchfield. Mrs. Steffens was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church, serving in Ladies Aid and the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. She enjoyed socializing, bus trips and traveling, and especially going to Florida each February with her husband, Frank.

A son, Martin F. (Kara) Steffens of Litchfield

A daughter, Brenda E. (Thomas) Carey of Springfield

4 grandchildren, Mason (Sydney Streeb) Steffens; Tessa (Jade) Doyle; Jennifer Carey and Jaclyn Carey.

Mrs. Steffens was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers Wilbur Liesman; Orville Liesman; and Gerald Liesman; and her sisters, Verniece Hoffert; Mary Ann Underwood Bratcher; Betty Nichols; and Geneva Haseley.

Funeral services for Mrs. Steffens will be held at 12 noon Friday, October 25, 2024, at Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield. Rev. Fred Kraemer will officiate.  Burial will be in Elm Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church or Zion Lutheran School.
