Roger Baxter Obituary

Roger Ray Baxter, 76, of Raymond, passed away on Mon., Feb. 17, 2020 at 3:55 a.m. in Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy, IL.  He was born on Jan., 13, 1944 in DuQuin, IL, a son of Robert Joseph and Jennie Mae (Wilks) Baxter.  Mr. Baxter was a Veteran of the US Air Force, he toured during Vietnam.  He graduated Pawnee High School with the Class of 1962.  He married the former Barbara Anne Kerfont in November 6, 1965.  She preceded him in death on March 28, 2005.  Mr. Baxter was a Coal Miner at Peabody Coal Mine - Pawnee #10 for several years.  He then worked for Peabody Coal Mine in Marissa, IL until his retirement in 1999.  He was a member of Christian Church in Raymond, American Legion Post 299 in Raymond, and VFW 4495 in Taylorville.  Mr. Baxter enjoyed deer hunting, playing the guitar, motorcycles, and he loved to fish.

He is survived by:

1 son,              Anthony R. (Linda) Baxter of Raymond

1 daughter,      Kimberly Ann (John) Packwood of Ames, IA

1 brother,        James Robert Baxter of Pawnee

2 sisters,         Linda Kay (James) Woolory of Pawnee

                        Carolyn Ann (Gary) Price of Decatur

3 grandchildren, Karsun Baxter, Kahra Taylor-Allen (husband Christopher “Patrick”),

    Kayla Taylor-Ingram

8 great-grandchildren

In addition to his wife Barbara, Mr. Baxter was preceded in death by his parents; and Sister Sondra Sue Achenbach.

Funeral services for Mr. Baxter will be held Mon., Feb. 24, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. in Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield.  Rev. Martin Miller of Raymond Christian Church will officiate.  Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield at 1:00 p.m. Monday.  Visitation will be held Sunday from 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  The family suggests memorials be made to the family of Roger Baxter c/o Linda Baxter.
