Richard Allen Tomazzoli, 73, of Nokomis, passed away Saturday, August 3, 2024 at 2:46 p.m. in his home.
Born July 14, 1951, in Coalton, IL, to Mario “Tye” and Blanche (Lorion) Tomazzoli. He joined the US Army in 1968 and served overseas until 1974. Richard married Linda Sue Bangert on August 22, 1970 and they later divorced. Once his service was completed, he proudly worked as a coal miner and an officer in his union.
Along with his kindness and generosity, “Dago” was a real talker and his smile always lit up the room. In the world of baseball, he was a serious Chicago Cubs fan and even named his dog “Cubbie.” He also enjoyed working on vehicles and was a proud veteran.
He is survived by his granddaughter, Jenna Tomazzoli of Nokomis, IL, sister-in-law, Barb Tomazzoli, his nieces and nephews, Dawn (Tomazzoli) Stewart of CA, Sean (Michelle) Tomazzoli of Germantown, IL, Paul “Zee” (Lisa) Tomazzoli, Jr. of Cobden, IL & Joe Norris of Langleyville, IL, Terra & Tina Tomazzoli, both of Springfield, IL. Richard is also survived by half-brothers, Ron Vandever, Mike Vandever, half-sister, Debbie Vandever, along with several other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Shane Tomazzoli, his daughter, Angela Tomazzoli, his brother, Paul Tomazzoli, and his sister, Mary Tomazzoli.
Funeral services for Richard Allen “Dago” Tomazzoli will be held at Plummer Funeral Home on Friday, August 9, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. with burial following in Elm Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held also on Friday, August 9, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Rev. Gary Schwab, of the First Presbyterian Church of Litchfield, will be officiating.
