Nancy S DeBarr

Nancy Sue DeBarr, 62, of Chatham, passed away January 31, 2023, in Springfield, IL. She was born in Litchfield, a daughter of Jim and Helen DeBarr. She graduated from Litchfield High School and Illinois Wesleyan University.  Nancy was an All-State Musician during high school. Nancy loved music, particularly Jazz. While a freshman majoring in Psychology, she displaced more senior music majors as the first chair trumpet player with Wesleyan’s renowned Jazz Band. 

She served her community in Montgomery County, Springfield, and the State of Illinois, by working with elderly, persons with intellectual and developmental challenges, and as a disability adjudicator, respectively. She was kind and generous with both her time, finances, and talents. If you needed someone to listen, she did. If you were sick and needed transportation to get to chemotherapy, or social support she was there. If you needed a coat or groceries, she delivered. She was funny, smart and the kind of person you would want for a best friend. 

She lived for her family.  She leaves behind her sister Kathy (Mark Franklin) DeBarr, and her favorite furry friend Molly, who all were blessed by her presence and miss her dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents. If you wish to honor Nancy, the family suggests performing an act of kindness for another.

A private service will be held for the family on Tuesday, February 28, 2023. Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield is in charge of arrangements.
