Melvin Lee Fenton, 76, of Salem, MO, formerly of Litchfield, IL, passed away Sunday, September 1, 2024 at 4:32 p.m. at his residence in Salem, MO.
Born in Litchfield, a son of Rev. William George “Buss” and Mary Opal (Hemken) Fenton. He was a graduate of Litchfield Community High School, Class of 1966. He graduated from Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield, IL, with an Associates Degree in Forestry. Melvin was a veteran of the United States Army, 199th Infantry Division, during the Vietnam War. He married the former Nora Lynn Elam on October 7, 1966 at Walshville IL, and she survives.
He loved reading his Bible, listening to Gospel music, and hunting. He was a member of the VFW and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.
Melvin worked at CPC in Litchfield. He was the pastor at Faith Chapel Church in Greenville, IL and was a concrete truck driver in Laramie, WY.
In addition to his wife, Nora, Melvin is survived by his children: Gordon (Jennifer) Fenton of Salem MO, Lynn Fenton of Salem MO, Amy (Brent) Brooks of Laramie WY, Janelle (Brad) Morehouse of Missoula MT, Joshua (Misty) Fenton of Lawton OK, Marsha (Collin) Geninatti of Salem MO. 12 Grandchildren and 9 Great Grand Children and 1 on the way. Siblings: Brother Clarence (Doris) of Edgerton WI, Sister Velma Speed of Brook IN, Brother Marvin Fenton of Nokomis IL, and Special Buddy: Fred Geninatti.
Melvin is Preceded in Death by: his parents William and Opal Fenton, A daughter Romana Fenton, Brother Harold “Frog” Fenton and Rev. Elmer Fenton, Sisters, Irene Ryan and Nola Nadine Hancock.
Funeral Services for Melvin will be held Saturday, September 7, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at the Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. Gary Fenton, a nephew of Melvin, will officiate and burial with military honors will be in the Hart Cemetery, South Litchfield Township. Visitation will be held Saturday from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
