Melba Frances Watson, 88, of Litchfield, passed away Sun. April 23, 2023 at 7:45 p.m. at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. Mrs. Watson was born August 16, 1934 in rural Irving, IL, a daughter of George Washington ad Helen Marie (Kluthe) Taylor. She graduated from Morrisonville High School with the Class of 1952. She was employed by International Filter in Litchfield as a secretary and book keeper for several years. Mrs. Watson enjoyed St. Louis Cardinals baseball, jigsaw puzzles, crocheting, quilting, gardening and attending senior citizen dances. She and Wesley Leroy Loew were married in 1953, and he preceded her in death in 1968. She married Wayne Watson and they later divorced.

Mrs. Watson is survived by:

A son, Bradley (Rosalie) Loew of Irving, IL

A son-in-law, Michael A. Huber of Pleasant Plains, IL

2 daughters, Karen Chesney of Butler, IL; and Marilyn (Lee) Thomas of Charleston, IL

A sister, Sylvia Fay Prior of Irving, IL

6 grandchildren, Jason (Amy) Huber; Andrew (Amy) Huber; Eric (Hannah) Chesney; Tara Chesney; Daniel Loew; and Wesley Loew

4 step-grandchildren, Phillip (Tonya) Thomas; Tammy (Bill) Pennington; Darrel (Stephanie) Thomas; and Shelly Reiss

8 great-grandchildren, Mathew Loew; Vivian Loew; Peyton Chesney; Paxton Chesney; William Huber; Ina Huber; Ryan Sharpe; and Alayna Huber.

11 step-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and her first husband, Mrs. Watson was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Ann Huber; a son-in-law, Bernard Chesney; and a granddaughter, Jennifer Huber.

Funeral services for Mrs. Watson will be held at noon Thursday, April 27, 2023, at Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. Rev. Randy Sands of Hillsboro Free Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Kirkland Cemetery in Sorento. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Litchfield Food Pantry.
