Matthew Thomas Bolar, Jr.

Matthew Thomas Bolar, Jr., 85, of Springfield, IL, passed away Thursday January 23, 2025, in Springfield, IL. He was born in East Chicago, IN, on January 31, 1939, the oldest of three sons born to Matthew Thomas Bolar, Sr., and Alma Leota (Simmons) Bolar. He married the love of his life, the former Gale Flitz, on February 2, 1968, at Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield, IL, with whom he cherished 58 years of marriage.

Matt proudly served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Coral Sea as a Machinist Mate, before settling into a long career at Commonwealth Edison in Pawnee, IL, as a mechanic foreman.

His greatest joy in life were his children, Glen and Kristy, along with his grandchildren, Andrew, Mindy, and Shelby. He would often be found sharing stories of their latest accomplishments.

His vivacious humor and sincere smile were a source of joy to all who knew him. We remember Matt as a man of honor whose legacy of warmth and dependability will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known him. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
