84 year old Mary K. Meyer, of Litchfield, passed away Friday, July 5, 2019 at 11:48 p.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.
Born August 21, 1934 in Litchfield, the daughter of Edward Bernard and Catherine Elizabeth (Roller) Hilger. A graduate of Litchfield Community High School Class of 1952. Mary K. married Paul Francis Meyer on May 21, 1955 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Litchfield. Mr. Meyer passed away January 13, 2013.
Mrs. Meyer was employed by the late Dr. Ross Griswold, Barenholtz Furniture Co. and spent the bulk of her working career at St. Francis Hospital for 23 years in bookkeeping and insurance claims departments. She participated in the move from the old St. Francis Hospital on South State St. to the new facility and current location.
A faithful member of Holy Family Parish, Mrs. Meyer was active with the St. Anne’s Society, helping serve funeral dinners, the Council of Catholic Women, the church choir and served on the Holy Cross Cemetery Board. She and her late husband, Paul, were known for putting in and tending to a large garden and traveling.
Surviving are her 4 children;

7 grandchildren; Jamie (Capt. Vince, USMC) Gonzalez of Beaufort, SC., LT. Tyler (Nora) Darr, USN., Virginia Beach, VA., Katie (Fiance’ Scott Bissonnette) Bruntjen of Harvel, IL
Shelby Meyer of Cabot, AR, Ryan Bruntjen of Philo, IL, Kristen Meyer of Cabot, AR, and Karly Bruntjen of Harvel, IL.
4 great grandchildren; Gabe and Asher Gonzalez, Mary Darr and Baby Darr due in September. Special friends, Sean and Diane Smith.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Meyer was preceded in death by her parents, and infant brother, Edwin G. Hilger.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, July 11, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Litchfield, the Rev. Dan Willenborg will preside and burial will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Litchfield. Friends may call Wednesday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Plummer Funeral Home. The Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m.
The family suggests masses and memorials to Holy Family Catholic Church, or Holy Cross Cemetery Assn., or to Hearts United, where she often volunteered.
