Marilyn Anne Barnes, 84 of Litchfield, passed away, Tuesday, May 23, 2023.
Marilyn was born October 26, 1938 in Zanesville Township, a daughter of Harold (Pete) and Mildred (Engelman) Daggett. She married Donald L. Barnes on February 17, 1957. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother, Jerry Lee Daggett.
Marilyn attended grade school in Raymond, Moweaqua and at Hazel Green. She graduated from Carlinville High School, Class of ‘56. She enjoyed her classmates and loved their reunions and other get togethers.
As life went on, she worked at various jobs while raising her family. When the kids were pretty much raised, she fulfilled a dream and began nursing school at Capitol Area Vocational where she graduated Valedictorian of her class. Marilyn went on to become Director of Nursing for nursing homes in Virden and Walsenburg CO.
Marilyn was very proud of her family and loved spending time with them. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking and traveling. After retirement, she and her husband sold their home and became full time RV’ers. They traveled the USA, truly enjoying all it had to offer. They were also camp hosts at Beaver Dam State Park which Marilyn greatly enjoyed.
Marilyn is survived by her daughters, Sheryl (Carl) Slightom of Atwater and Ginger Barnes of Hillsboro, sons, Brett (Kristy) Barnes of Girard and Bart (Gaye) Barnes of Gisborne, Australia, sisters Sharon Campbell and Susie (Leonard) Lott, brothers Jon (Sue) and Kenny Daggett all of Carlinville, 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
A private family graveside service will be held. Internment will be at Bethel Ridge Cemetery.
