Larry Eugene Cranford, 84, of Hamel, formerly of Litchfield, passed away peacefully at his home in Hamel, IL on August 18, 2025. He was born May 25, 1941 to Ralph Roland and Juanita June (Rice) Cranford in Litchfield, IL, Larry was a proud graduate of Litchfield High School, Class of 1959, where he served as class president and excelled on both the football and baseball teams. He went on to attend the University of Illinois, where he earned his degree in economics, a foundation that guided his professional career.
Larry spent his career with State Farm as a claims adjuster, where his professionalism, dedication, and friendly nature made a lasting impact on colleagues and clients alike. He was also a longtime member of Toastmasters, where he sharpened his communication skills and enjoyed fellowship with others.
Larry was married to Ruby (Finch) Cranford of Litchfield, IL, with whom he shared many years. Together, they raised three daughters, Susie, Julie, and Laura, who were the pride in his life. On July 25, 1990, in Tennessee, Larry married the love of his life, Shiryl, and they shared more than three decades of marriage until her passing.
A man of quiet passions and great heart, Larry found joy in many pursuits. He loved baseball, cheering on his favorite teams and reminiscing about the games of his youth. He enjoyed reading, especially about history, and had a soft spot for animals, especially his beloved cat, Buddy. Above all, he cherished time with his children and grandchildren, who brought him immense joy.
Faith was an important part of Larry’s life, and he was a devoted member of First Baptist Church, where he enjoyed worship, fellowship, and service. A generous soul, he also supported several charities throughout his life, always looking for ways to give back to the community he loved.
He is survived by his three daughters, Laura (Dave) Hammann of Collinsville, IL; Julie (Dave) Graham of Raymond, IL; and Susie White of Litchfield, IL; along with one son, Bill (Trisha) Vorachek of Belton, TX. He also leaves behind 14 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild, all of whom brought him tremendous pride and happiness.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Shiryl; and his granddaughter, Kristine Hauter.
He will be remembered for his kindness, sense of humor, faith, and unwavering love for his family.
Funeral services for Larry will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 24, 2025, at Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. Rev. Dr. Jason Plumer of First Baptist Church in Litchfield will officiate. Burial will follow in Elm Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 12 noon until the time of service at the funeral home. Larry's family invites you to join them for a time of food and fellowship at the Litchfield Moose Lodge following the burial.
The family respectfully requests that memorials be directed to Benld Adopt-A-Pet, First Baptist Church of Litchfield, or St. Jude’s, which were causes near and dear to Larry.
