Joshua Aaron Burdell, 42, of Litchfield, passed away Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at 5:41 p.m. at HSHS St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield. Born in Hillsboro, IL., he was a son of Mark Alan and Linda Kay (Smith) Burdell. Joshua was a graduate of Hillsboro High School, Class of 2000. He married the former Aimee Nicole Toberman on May 20, 2006 in Litchfield, and she survives.
Shortly after graduating high school, Josh worked in construction, building houses in the Springfield area and was currently the Water Superintendent for Three County Public Water District where he has worked for the past 22 years. He was a faithful member of Southside Church and played drums with the worship team. He enjoyed watching movies and playing games with his family. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed grilling and smoking meats for everyone to enjoy.
In addition to his wife, Aimee, Josh is survived by two sons, Isaiah and Noah Burdell, his father, Mark Burdell, brother, David (Tara) Burdell of Chatham, his sister, Shannon (Charles) Diveley of Litchfield, his sister-in-law, Stephanie Burdell from Hillsboro, in-laws, Mike (Terry) Toberman of Litchfield, his brother-in-law, Ben (Katie) Toberman of Taylorville, along with several nieces and nephews, a great niece, and two great nephews.
Preceding Josh in death are his mother, Kay, a brother, Kevin Burdell, his maternal grandparents, Wilbur and Mary Katherine (Wilson) Smith, and paternal grandparents, Harry and Bernadine (Wall) Burdell.
A celebration of Josh’s life will be held Monday, February 19, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. at Southside Church in Litchfield. Pastor Nathan Diveley will officiate. Visitation will be held Sunday, February 18, 2024, from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m. at Southside Church. The family requests attendees dress casually, as Josh would have preferred. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials are made payable to Aimee Burdell, and will be directed to Josh’s wife and sons for expenses and the boys’ future.
