Josephine Erma Poppenhouse, 104, of Hillsboro, passed away Friday, October 7, 2022, at 1:25 a.m. She was born September 29, 1918, in Hillsboro, IL, a daughter of Herbert Max and Erma (Forehand) Titcomb. On July 23, 1938, she married Victor Lewis Poppenhouse at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Parsonage in Hillsboro. He preceded her in death. Mrs. Poppenhouse was a homemaker, who also enjoyed baking wedding cakes, quilting, keeping books for her husband at Vic’s T.V. and Radio, and helping on their farm across from WSMI. She was also employed at Litchfield High School in Laundry. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Litchfield, where she participated in the JOY Class, Keenagers and singing in the choir. What she enjoyed most of all, was being with her family.

1 daughter, Karen (Russell) Hiller of Litchfield
1 sister, June Pruitt of Litchfield
7 grandchildren: Dr. Michael (Kim) Kalaher, Bryan Kalaher, Amy (Mike) Goodwin, David (Mieka) Kalaher, Mark (Teresa) Kalaher, Ellen (Brian) Cooke, & Allen (Bonnie) Roberson
15 great grandchildren: Landon Sarver, Dylan Kalaher, Dawson Kalaher-Sarver, Kyle Roberson, Jason Todd, Maycen Wiseman, Laura Alexander, Jordan Richards, JoAnna Kalaher, Mark Kalaher, Victor Kalaher, Maggie Kalaher, Braelen Cooke, Zoie Craven, & Triniti Craven
5 great-great grandchildren: Carter Sarver, Harrison Sarver, Emersyn Richards, Mila Wiseman & Emma Wiseman
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, daughters Carol Kalaher & Dolores Fanello, sisters Pearl DePew, Maxine Pettijohn, Mary Tefteller Vath & Lois Daughtery, brothers, Albert Titcomb & Kenneth Titcomb, grandchildren Tom Frazier & Randy Roberson and her great granddaughter, Madison Kalaher.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at 12:00 p.m., at Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Rev. Gary Schwab of First Presbyterian Church will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Ridge Cemetery in Honey Bend. Memorials may be designated to the Alzheimer’s Association.
