Jebron "Bonnie" Zalar Obituary

Jebron Jenice “Bonnie” Zalar, 103, of Litchfield, passed away at her residence on Thursday, February 6, 2025. She was born in Panama, Illinois September 11, 1921, a daughter of Antone and Freda Marie (File) Piprock. She graduated from Hillsboro High School with the Class of 1939 and attended Alton Beauty School and Lincoln Land Community College. Bonnie and Joseph Zalar were married May 19, 1946, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Staunton, and they enjoyed nearly 66 years of marriage before his passing February 20, 2010. She owned and operated Bonnie’s Beauty Shop out of her home for over 30 years, helping women look their best.

She was a member of Holy Family Parish in Litchfield and was active in the St. Anne’s Society there. A faithful servant of the Lord, she could be found reciting St. Jude’s Novena for anyone in spiritual need of prayer. In 2019, she received Lady of Distinction Award for outstanding service, generosity, and dependability by Bishop Paprocki of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Springfield, Illinois. She also volunteered her time at St. Francis Hospital and with the VFW Auxiliary Post 3912. She belonged to several polka clubs, including the Springfield and Metro East clubs. She was also active with the exercise classes at the Litchfield Community Center and the Litchfield Senior Citizens Center. Bonnie was an excellent cook and had over 2,000 cookbooks in her collection.

Her daughter, Angela M. Zalar Bouillon (husband, Mark) of St. Louis, MO

2 grandchildren, David Bouillon and Sarah (Chase) Streltz

1 great granddaughter, Sienna Q. Streltz

In addition to her parents and husband, Bonnie was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Sawyer.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Litchfield. Fr. Dan Willenborg will preside. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Litchfield Volunteer Fire Department.
