Janet Sue Gelsinger, 74, of Litchfield, passed away Sunday, January 28, 2024 at 7:34 p.m. at the Carlinville Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, in Carlinville, IL.
Born August 17, 1949 in Litchfield. A daughter of August John and Velma Pearl (Guinn) Wendel, Sr. She attended Litchfield Schools and received her GED. In her early working years, Janet was employed at the former A&W Root Beer stand, Burger Chef, and for several years at Roller Derby Skate Corp., where she met her future husband, Ronnie. She then went to work at St. Francis Hospital and worked her way up to become Supervisor of Housekeeping, and worked at St. Francis for over 30 years until she retired. She Married Ronald Lee Gelsinger on June 30, 1979 at the home of Bro. Ed Diveley in Hillsboro. Mr. Gelsinger passed away February 15, 2009.
Mrs. Gelsinger was a member of the Red Hat Society, Crabtree Cemetery Assn. Board, and was president of the resident’s council of Carlinville Rehab & Health Care. She enjoyed bowling and camping, crocheting and singing Karaoke.
Surviving are; three sons. Robert (partner Angela) Settles of MO., John (Stanett) Settles of Litchfield, Ronnie (Sarah) Gelsinger of Litchfield, two daughters, Joann (Paul) Maberry of Litchfield, and Sharon (Tom) Stoecker of Worden, IL., 19 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. She also leaves her brother, Richard Wendel and her sister Sarah Kirby, both of Litchfield.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Gelsinger is preceded in death by her parents, her son, Donald J. Settles, Sr., a brother, John “Junior” Wendel, and a sister, Marjorie A. Ellinger, and two infant grandsons, Ronald and Ronnie Gelsinger, Jr.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Gelsinger will be held Friday, February 2, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. Rev. Gary Schwab, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church will officiate and burial will be in the Crabtree Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
