Helen Kean

Helen Marie Kean, 86, of Springfield, formerly of Hillsboro, passed away on Fri., March 26, 2021 at 3:45 a.m. at Sturgill Hospice House in Brooksville, Florida.  She was born on February 21, 1935, in Hillsboro, IL, a daughter of Walter Don and Althea (Harmon) Abrams.  Helen graduated from Hillsboro High School with the Class of 1955. She went on to earn her associate degree at SIUC.  She worked as a secretary for The Illinois State Treasurer, as well as an insurance agent with John Hancock. Helen married Gilbert Kean on May 1, 1955 in Hillsboro. He survives.  She was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church (ELCA).  Helen was an active member of her church and community.  She enjoyed spending time outdoors in her flower gardens and loved spending time at the beach in Sarasota.  She always had a kind word and a caring heart.  Helen always thought of others before herself.  In addition to her husband, she is survived by:

2 sons; Mark (Vickie) Kean of Springfield

              Mike (Stacey) Kean of New Market, TN.

1 daughter; Susan (Robert) Budds of Williston, FL.

10 grandchildren; Melody (Joshua) Meyer, Miranda (Andy) Stewart, Melissa (Jeb) Sanders, Michael (Holly) Kean, Maggie Kean, Jeremy Budds, Jonathan Budds, Jennifer (David) Simic; Kate Beckett, Rebecca (Brian) Lipsmire

Helen was preceded in death by her parents and 2 brothers, Robert and Jack Abrams.

Funeral services for Helen will be held on Monday, April 5 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield.  Rev. Glen VanderKloot will officiate.  Burial will be in Cedar Ridge Cemetery in Honey Bend.  Visitation will be held Monday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.  Due to CDC guidelines, social distancing and masks will be required. The family requests memorials be made to Grace Lutheran Food Pantry in Springfield (714 E. Capitol Ave, Springfield, IL 62701).
