Halden Roy Wernsing

Halden Roy Wernsing, 89, of Cape Coral, FL, formerly of Harvel, passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at 4:50 a.m. in Cape Coral. He was born October 31, 1933 in Raymond, IL, a son of Roy and Anna (Hamlin) Wernsing. He graduated from Raymond High School with the Class of 1951, and proudly served his country in the United States Navy on the USS Philippine Sea during the Korean Conflict.  Mr. Wernsing and the former Lorraine Louise Nobbe were married on August 17, 1957 in Harvel, IL. She preceded him in death on August 5, 1976. Mr. Wernsing farmed for many years. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Harvel, IL; the American Legion Post 299 in Raymond, IL; and a member of the Panhandle District #2 school board. Mr. Wernsing enjoyed traveling the world while exploring different cultures and SCUBA diving. He was certified by the U.S. Coast Guard as a Master Captain of the Intercoastal Waterways and frequently took his boat from Florida to the Bahamas.

2 daughters, Sheri A.  (Kevin) Wernsing Botner of Louisville, KY and Risa (Jeff) Wernsing Roberts of Osage Beach, MO

1 son, Mitchell L. (Cathy) Wernsing of Millcreek, UT

4 grandchildren, Nicholas (Brittany) Piercy of Arvada, CO; Kendra Piercy of Chicago, IL; Kelsey (Patrick) Wernsing Haukap of Auburn, IL; and Katelyn Wernsing of Springfield, IL

1 great-grandson, Finley Piercy of Arvada, CO

A sister, Karen (David) Bayer of Naples, FL

A sister-in-law, Virginia Wernsing of Raymond, IL

His partner of many years, Carolyn Johnston of Cape Coral, FL.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Mr. Wernsing was preceded in death by a brother, Merrill A. Wernsing.

Funeral services for Mr. Wernsing will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 12, 2023, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Harvel, IL. Rev. Joseph Nehring will officiate. Burial will be in Harvel Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 11 from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m. at Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield, IL. Memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church, Harvel or Project Third Day-Panhandle Organization, Raymond.
