Grace Avanelle (Grimes) Stockstill

Grace Avanelle Stockstill, 95, of Litchfield, passed away Saturday, March 4, 2023, at 6:40 p.m. at Montgomery Nursing and Rehab in Hillsboro.

She was born October 23, 1927, in Litchfield, a daughter of Stephen D. Grimes, Jr. and Myrtle L. (Wilhite) Grimes. She attended Litchfield schools, graduating with the class of 1945. She married Cecil J. Stockstill on November 2, 1947, in Litchfield, and he preceded her in death on April 5, 1973.

Mrs. Stockstill was employed as a secretary at Litchfield High School and for Macy and Lober Attorneys at Law. She was also employed at Worley Women’s Wear and practiced nursing. She was a member of St. Timothy United Methodist Church. Mrs. Stockstill was a member of the Litchfield Women’s Club and was an avid Cardinals baseball fan.

She is survived by one son, Tom (Cheryl) Stockstill of Mt. Olive; one brother, George Grimes of Oakley, IL; one sister-in-law, Harriet Grimes of Litchfield; two grandsons, Bradley (Brenda) Stockstill of Fieldon, IL, and Travis (Jennifer) Stockstill of Butler; and four great-grandchildren, Mitchell Stockstill, Macy Stockstill, Wesley Stockstill and Brooke Stockstill.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Gerald Grimes and Richard Grimes.

Funeral services for Mrs. Stockstill will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield with Rev. Gary Schwab officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Litchfield. Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 11, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials are suggested to Hearts United in Litchfield.
