Frieda Marie (Smock) Wanger

Frieda Marie Wanger, 99 of Litchfield passed away at 12:20 p.m. on Thursday, August 25, 2022, at Heritage Health in Litchfield. She was born on August 14, 1923, in Glenarm, IL, a daughter of Nathan D. and Mary Verdelia (Skeen) Smock.  She graduated from Farmersville High School with the Class of 1942. On July 21, 1942, she married Aloysius Cecil Wanger in Litchfield. He preceded her in death on November 22, 1987.

Mrs. Wanger was a dedicated homemaker. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Litchfield and of VFW #3912 Ladies Auxiliary.

Mrs. Wanger is survived by:

Her daughter, Rita (Jim) Williams of Butler

Her daughters-in-law, Peggy Kibbler of Irving and Linda Wanger of Decatur.

4 grandchildren, Diana (Matt) Law of Litchfield, Danny Wanger of Litchfield,  Christa (Fred) Durfee of Lexington, TN, and Jessica (Andrew) Frerichs of Litchfield.

11 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Wanger was preceded in death by her sons Aloysius Wanger, Jerry Wanger and James Wanger; her brothers Steven Smock, James Smock and Clifford Smock; her sister JoAnn Davis; and her grandsons Jack Williams and Mark Wanger.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Wanger will be said on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Litchfield with Fr. Dan Willenborg presiding. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Litchfield. Visitation will be at the church from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass.
