Freddie “Fred” Eugene Roach, 72, of Hillsboro, passed away Saturday, May 14, 2022 at 7:44 p.m. in Hillsboro. He was born on October 24, 1949 in Carlinville, IL, a son of Fred A. Roach and the former Dorothy L. Welge. He attended school in Raymond, IL, and briefly attended college. He was a retired coal miner from CONSOL of Coffeen, IL, and a member of the UMWA. Mr. Roach served in the United States Army and was a Vietnam Veteran in the 11th Armored Calvary Division. He married the former Christie Rae Budd on April 29, 1972 in Hillsboro; she survives.
Mr. Roach was commander of American Legion Everett C Burton Post #701 in Waggoner, secretary of Veteran’s Assistance Commissions of Montgomery County, attended several Rolling Thunder rallies, a member of Mt. Moriah Lodge #51 in Hillsboro. He was a big Cubs fan and loved portraying Santa Claus in the area. He also enjoyed motorcycles, fishing, watching his grandchildren’s sporting events and playing with his great grandchildren. Mr. Roach never met a stranger.
In addition to his wife Christie, Mr. Roach is survived by:
1 son, Darren (Linda) Street of Hillsboro, IL.
1 daughter, Melanie Tyszko of Hillsboro, IL.
2 brothers, Scott (Lynda) Roach of Orange City, FL, and Jamie (Angie) Roach of Ocala, FL.
1 sister, Amy (Rich) Reincke of Hillsboro, IL.
4 grandchildren, Zoe (Keegan Lohman) Tyszko, Elijah Tyszko, Finn Tyszko and Blake Street.
3 great grandchildren, Arlo, Wilder and Jax Lohman.
Several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. Roach was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Sheila McIntyre.
Celebration of life for Mr. Roach will be Thursday, May 19, 2022 at the Waggoner Centennial Building in Waggoner, IL at 4:00 pm. Visitation will be held from 2:00 until the time of service. The family suggests memorials may be made to the American Legion Post or VAC Scholarship Fund.
