Frank Leighton Fleming, 83, of Litchfield, Illinois passed away Friday, September 17, 2021 surrounded by his family. Frank was born in Litchfield on December 25, 1937 to William Harold and Greta Belle Bachstein Fleming. He attended Litchfield Community High School and graduated with an accounting degree from Southern Illinois University - Carbondale. He served in the Illinois National Guard. He married Alberta Lee Crawford on July 22, 1961 at First Baptist Church in Litchfield, and they recently celebrated 60 years of marriage. Frank was a respected community banker with Litchfield National Bank for 67 years. He served as chairman of the board at the time of his death. Frank loved his LNB family as his own. Frank was honored in 2008 as banker of the year by the Illinois Bankers Association. Frank enjoyed traveling to banking conferences and visiting with many friends from the industry.
Frank had a passion to be a positive contributor to his community. Through the years he was involved with numerous community organizations. He served on the Litchfield Chamber of Commerce and the Litchfield Economic Development Commission. Frank was honored as Litchfield Citizen of the year in 1988 and a Veiled Non Profit in 2006. Frank had a keen interest in agriculture and staying up to date on current events by reading daily newspapers. Frank truly enjoyed gathering with his high school classmates of 1955. His greatest joy was found through his grandchildren and great grandchildren. His family and friends will remember him as a man who lived life well and demonstrated kindness to all.
In addition to his wife Alberta, Frank is survived by; son, Michael (Janice) Fleming and daughter, Susan (Bart) Wetzel. He is also survived by grandchildren, Austin (Kelly) Clark, Dillon (Elizabeth) Clark, Joshua Wetzel, Emily Wetzel, Greta Fleming, Ellen Fleming, Olivia Fleming, great grandchildren, Autumn Clark and Jayden Clark, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers William Harold Fleming Jr. in infancy and David William Fleming.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 24, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Litchfield. Rev. Jason Plumer of First Baptist Church in Litchfield will officiate. An evening sunset burial will be at 6:00 p.m. Friday at Cedar Ridge Cemetery in Honey Bend, Illinois, with Military Honors. Visitation will be held Thursday, September 23, 2021 from 2:00 p.m to 7:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Litchfield. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that expressions of sympathy may be made by a donation to The City of Litchfield Flag Fund to replace worn and tattered flags.
