Everett Hickerson Obituary

Everett Elonzo Hickerson, 98, of Litchfield, passed away on Sun., Dec. 27, 2020 at 12:25 p.m. at Heritage Health Therapy & Senior Care in Litchfield.  He was born on May 14, 1922, near White Hall, IL, a son of Philip Adolphus and Beulah June (Lenington) Hickerson.  Mr. Hickerson was a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving during WWII Asiatic – Pacific Theatre, and was a Purple Heart Recipient.  During his time in the service he was stationed at Guadalcanal, Phillipines, and Papua New Guinea.  Everett was a machine operator at International Paper in Litchfield.  In his earlier years he worked with Allis – Chalmers in Springfield, and Billiter’s Standard Service Station in Litchfield.  Mr. Hickerson married the former Mary Louise Claxon on Jan. 18, 1948 at Union Avenue Christian Church in Litchfield.  She preceded him in death on July 26, 2010.  Everett was a lifetime member of the following organizations; the Moose Lodge #1634 in Litchfield, the VFW Post 3912 in Litchfield, and the American Legion Post 436.  Additionally he was a member of the 40&8.  He enjoyed camping, fishing, duck hunting, playing cards and was a noted pinochle player.  Everett especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  He is survived by:

1 brother, Gary (Barbara) Hickerson of Cape Coral, FL

1 sister, Roberta Boehler of Girard, IL

2 grandchildren, Sherry (Kenny) Bergschneider of Litchfield

Kevin (Stephanie) Hickerson of Litchfield

4 great-grandchildren, Michelle Claussen; Michael Claussen (Mark Coulter); Michaela Bergschneider (Eric Gray); Ashley Hickerson

Mr. Hickerson was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary; 1 son, Calvin Hickerson; Daughter-in-law, Judy Hickerson-Borror; 2 brothers, Earl and Raymond Hickerson; 3 sisters, Opal Smith; Lela Quigley; Irma Gardner.

Funeral services will be held on Thurs., Dec. 31, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield.  Rev. Jon Magnuson of Beacon Church will officiate.  Burial will be in Elm Lawn Cemetery in Litchfield.  Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.  Memorials may be designated to the Litchfield Veterans Memorial Garden.  Due to CDC guidelines, social distancing and masks will be required.
