Esther E. Hofeling, 95 of Tipton, Indiana died Sunday, November 26, 2017 at Miller’s Merry Manor in Tipton. She was born on March 12, 1922 in Pilot Township, Kankakee County, Illinois to Ernst H. & Emma (Licht) Kuhlmann. She had lived in Herscher, Illinois from 1922-1940; Watseka, Illinois from 1940-1959 and Litchfield, Illinois from 1959-2009 before moving to Carmel, Indiana. Esther married Wilbur H. Hofeling on April 9, 1955 and he preceded her in death on January 18, 1966.
Esther was the owner of Culligan Water Conditioning in Litchfield, retiring in 1987. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield and was involved in Ladies Aid, Choir, Altar Guild and helped at the Lutheran Grade School. Esther was also a member of the Litchfield Zonta Club. She loved to read, visit with family and help at church.
She is survived by one son, Harlan W. Hofeling and wife Christine, Carmel, Indiana; one sister, Norma Langellier, Martinton, Illinois; two grandchildren, Alec Hofeling and fiancée Janet Monastro and Emma Hofeling. Esther was preceded in death by one sister, Caroline Decker and three brothers, Ernst Kuhlmann, Edgar Kuhlmann and Edwin Kuhlmann; one step-brother, Ewald Kuhlmann and five step-sisters, Erna Harnish, Lorna Wilkening, Paula Thielman, Rosa Voigtz and Hilda Kuhlmann.
Memorial services will be held Sat., Mar. 10, 2018 at 11 a.m. in Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield. Rev. Fred Kraemer will officiate. Inurnment will be in Elm Lawn Cemetery in Litchfield. Visitation will be held Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until time of service in the church. The family suggests memorials to Alzheimer’s Association or Zion Lutheran School in Litchfield. Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield is in charge of arrangements.
