Edith C. Shepherd

Edith Christine Shepherd, 90, of Litchfield, passed away Friday, January 26, 2018 at 10:30 p.m. at the Heritage Health Therapy and Senior Care Center in Litchfield. 

She was born in Harlan County, KY on January 8, 1928, a daughter of Herman and Mary (Owens) Johnson.  She married Herbert Shepherd on August 28, 1943 in Harlan, KY.  Mr. Shepherd passed away November 24, 1998.  Mrs. Shepherd was a homemaker. She enjoyed reading and gardening and help raising her grandchildren.

Mrs. Shepherd is survived by her son; Herbert L. (Lynn) Shepherd and a daughter Brenda Marit, both of Litchfield.  5 grandchildren; David and Richard Marit of Litchfield, Marsha (John Hamann) Shepherd of Gillespie, Benjamin (Justine Hancock) Shepherd of Litchfield, and Neil (Nicole) Shepherd of Litchfield; 1 step-grandson, David (Vicki) Fleming; 6 great-grandchildren; 2 step-great-grandchildren, Joshua (Laura) Fleming; Shayla Fleming (companion, David Hill); 1 step-great-great-grandchild.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Shepherd is preceded in death by her son-in-law Norman Marit, a brother James Johnson, and 3 sisters; Grace Kohus, Delta Lindsey and Stella Forester. 

Funeral Services for Mrs. Shepherd will be held Thursday, February 1, 2018 at 12:00 Noon at the Plummer Funeral home in Litchfield. The Rev. Jon Magnuson, pastor of the Beacon Church in Litchfield, will officiate.  Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery in Litchfield.  Visitation will be Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.  The family suggests memorials to Hearts United in Litchfield.
