Dorothy J. Schmidt

Dorothy June Schmidt, 91, of Litchfield, passed away on Friday, August 14, 2020 at 1:18 a.m. at her home.  She was born on Dec. 9, 1928, in Litchfield, IL, a daughter of Steven Oliver and Violet June (Clayton) Mitchell.  Dorothy married Hans R. Schmidt on February 20, 1948 at Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield.  They owned and operated Schmidt Motor Sales for over 40 years.  Her main focus was wife, mother and homemaker.  Earlier jobs included the Coca-Cola Bottling Plant and Bookkeeper for the Saratoga Club.  Dorothy was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where she was active in the Zion Ladies Aid, PTA and taught Sunday School for many years. Dorothy was a member of Zonta International.  She enjoyed bowling and she and her husband were charter members of the Litchfield Boat and Ski Club.

2 sons, Dennis (Sue Reynolds) Schmidt of East Lansing, MI

              Dean (Debbie Hitchings) Schmidt of Litchfield

1 daughter,      Diane (Murl) Stockamp of Columbia, MO

9 grandchildren, Ryan Stockamp, Julie (Stockamp) Bell, Laura Stockamp, Stephanie (Schmidt) Haman, Lindsey (Schmidt) Beaubien, David Schmidt, Travis Stephens, Troy Stephens, Samantha Brown

9 great-grandchildren

11 nieces and nephews

She was preceded in death by her husband, who passed away on March 31, 2002; her parents; two brothers, Robert Mitchell and Maurice Mitchell; and step grandson, Jordan Storm.

Private family funeral services for Dorothy will be held on Monday, August 31, 2020 at Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield.  Rev. Fred Kraemer will officiate.  Burial will be in Elm Lawn Cemetery in Litchfield.  Due to the pandemic, there will be no public showing.  Dorothy’s service will be live streamed for those who cannot attend. The family suggests memorials be made to the National Ataxia Foundation.
