David W. Young, Jr.

David William Young, Jr, 68, of rural Hillsboro, formerly of Litchfield, passed away Saturday, June 05, 2021 at 8:15 a.m. at his residence.

He was born May 25, 1953 in Litchfield, the son of David William and Frances Pauline (Ivey) Young. He graduated from Litchfield Community High School in the Class of 1971. He was a Veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S Army. Mr. Young was employed at Owens-Brockway in Godfrey and as a supervisor for Hillsboro Glass Company in Hillsboro for several years until the plant closed. He then worked for the State of Illinois as a claims processor and retired in 2018.

Mr. Young was married to the former Jodi Sue Favre in 1986 and they later divorced. He then married Rose Marie Elizabeth (Herder) Wilson on June 29, 2004. She passed away December 2, 2013. He is survived by his wife, Jennie Lee (Hill) Gross Cobb whom he married on April 30, 2016.

Mr. Young was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as the 1st Counselor in the branch presidency of the Litchfield Branch. He was also a member of the VFW Post 3912. Mr. Young was well known in youth sports. He coached both boys’ and girls’ teams in baseball, softball, basketball and soccer. He served on the Litchfield Community Unit School District Number 12 School Board. As an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, running and dirt biking. He taught Hunter Safety since 2001. He also enjoyed spoiling his grandchildren and was a lifelong Miami Dolphins and Cincinnati Reds fan.

Surviving in addition to his wife Jennie, are: his daughter, Jaime (Toby) Holbert of Hillsboro, IL, his son, Dakota (Heather Schuster) Young of Greenville, IL, stepdaughter Jessica Ward of New Castle, IN, and stepson Ryan Gross of St. Louis, MO.

Six grandchildren: Nolan and Emily Klump, Elmer Holbert IV, Lylah and Lydia Holbert, and Nova Young.

Six brothers: Paul Young of Litchfield, Mark Young of LeRoy, IL, Michael (Brandy) Young and Doug Young of Litchfield, George (Jennifer) Markulakis, and Bradley Markulakis. Three sisters: Carla Edwards, Marcia Robinson and Mary (William) Werries, all of Litchfield.

Mr. Young is preceded in death by his father, David William Young Sr, his mother, Frances Pauline (Ivey) Young Markulakis, and his wife Rose Young.

Funeral services for Mr. Young will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Litchfield. Bishop Lonnie Bruce will officiate and the burial with Military Honors will be in the Crabtree Cemetery in Litchfield. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 7, 2021 from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield.
