David C. Hendricks

David Charles Hendricks, 66, of Hillsboro, formerly of Litchfield, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2020 at 10:24 p.m. at home surrounded by his family and his beloved dog.  He was born to Charles and Nan Ellen (Seamer) Hendricks on Dec. 14, 1953 in Monticello, Iowa.

Dave graduated from Delavan High School with the Class of 1971 and went on to Illinois State University to receive his Bachelor’s degree in Education in 1975.  Dave started his teaching career at Litchfield High School in the 1975.  He taught Electronics, Woodshop, Drivers Education, and Computer Technology and Programming.  He was later hired on as the Technology Coordinator for the school district; retiring in 2002. 

He also taught classes for Lincoln Land Community College, owned and operated a computer store in Litchfield and Fairview Heights, sold medical software and most recently was an Optician in Collinsville at Family Eye Clinic.   He was a member of the Litchfield Volunteer Fire Dept. as a certified Firefighter II, EMT-B, and assisted in fire investigations with Chief Bill Bergen.  Dave joined the LVFD on Nov. 25, 1980 and served until Nov. 25, 2003.  He was a very active member of the department and a valuable asset to the community for many years.  He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Hillsboro, enjoyed music, photography, golf, and traveling with his wife to different wineries and restaurants.  Dave enjoyed running in marathons and ran several after being diagnosed with lung cancer.  Dave was married to Katherine Lewis from 1974 to 2003.  He married Dr. Julie Barrow on April 19, 2003 on Captiva Island, FL. 

Dave was preceded in death by his parents.  He is survived by his wife Julie, his five children, Mark (Natalie) Hendricks of Woodstock, IL, Joy (John) Watson of Bettendorf, IA, Kay (Matthew) Raffety of Hillsboro, Haley Sawyer of Hillsboro, Hannah Sawyer of Hillsboro; 6 grandchildren, Samuel Hendricks, Jessica Watson, Sarah Watson, John Raffety, Amelia Raffety, and Edward Raffety; his brother Lon (Nancy) Hendricks of St. Paul, MN and his sister Julie (Paul) Kasa of Lincoln, IL.

Funeral services will be held Mon., Feb. 3, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. in Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield.  Rev. Skyler Elmer of Christian Church of Litchfield will officiate.  Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery in Litchfield.  Visitation will be held Sun., Feb. 2, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. in the funeral home.  The family suggests memorials to PAWS Care of Montgomery County or Siteman Cancer Center in St. Louis, MO.
