Charles “Richard” Hammann, 74, of Waggoner, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at his residence. He was born October 2, 1950, in Carlinville, Illinois, a son of Charles Elmer and Mary Helen (Reiher) Hammann. Richard was a graduate of Girard High School with the Class of 1969. He and the former Peggy Burger were married March 10, 1972, at Zion Lutheran Church in Carlinville. She survives. Richard was a dedicated dairy farmer for over 20 years, and proud to be a full-time grain farmer. He had worked as a “snowbird” for the Illinois Department of Transportation and part-time laborer with Kinney Contractors of Raymond, Illinois. Richard held memberships of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Carlinville; International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 965; Virden Masonic Lodge #161 and Palmyra Chapter #453 Order of the Eastern Star.
In addition to his wife, Peggy, Richard is survived by his sons, Richard Gregory “Greg” (Kristy) Hammann, and Jeffrey Lewis (Laura) Hammann; grandchildren, Taylor Nicole Hammann, Logan Gregory Hammann, Hank Loren Hammann, and Luke Lewis Hammann, all of Atwater, Illinois.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Per Richard’s wishes, there will be no services.
