Carl Edwin Schmidt

Carl Edwin Schmidt, 76, of Litchfield, passed away on Wed., Jan. 20, 2021 at 2:15 p.m. in his home.  He was born on March 25, 1944, in Litchfield, IL, a son of Edwin Herman and Pauline Bertha (Beck) Schmidt. Mr. Schmidt worked for Olin Corporation/Winchester for 40 years before retiring in 2006.   He married Carol Ann Large on August 1, 1964 in Litchfield and they divorced in 2018.  Carl enjoyed planting big gardens, tinkering with antique gas engines, working on lawn mowers, and going to the races with his sons.  Mr. Schmidt is survived by:

4 sons, Tim (Tammy) Schmidt of Girard, IL.

               Matt (Cathy) Schmidt of Litchfield

               Jeff (Mary) Schmidt of Litchfield

               Jon (Kate) Schmidt of Litchfield

1 brother, Wayne (Shirley) Schmidt of Moro, IL.

1 sister, Karen (Lloyd) Lueker of Litchfield

8 grandchildren, Mitchell Schmidt, Mariah Schmidt, Kayla Schmidt, Casson Schmidt, Dalton Schmidt, Bryson Schmidt, Hannah Schmidt, Wade Schmidt.

2 step-grandchildren, Christopher Rawlings, Tracy (Sean) Bray

4 great-grandchildren, Jaxon and Owyn Wallace, Oliver and Rowan Reif.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents and 1 grandson, Carter Matthew Schmidt.   

Funeral services will be held Sunday Jan. 24, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. in Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. Rev. Fred Kraemer of Zion Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be in Elm Lawn Cemetery in Litchfield. Visitation will be held Sun., Jan. 24, 2021 from 12:00 p.m. until time of service at Plummer Funeral Home. The family suggests memorials be made to Zion Lutheran Church.
