Obituary

Brandon Scott Leonard, 35, of Litchfield, passed away Friday, September 1, 2023 at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. He was born in Litchfield January 5, 1988, a son of Denis Sam and Donna Jean (Deck) Leonard. He graduated from Litchfield High School with the Class of 2006, and went on to obtain degrees from Greenville College with a degree in Pastoral Studies, and from St. John’s School of Nursing. He was in the process of becoming a Nurse Practitioner. Brandon was employed with Springfield Clinic in the Dept. of Neurology, and had been formerly employed with various locations within the HSHS system, an associate at Dollar Tree, and a substitute teacher. He lived out his Christian faith as an active member of Net Community Church in Staunton, where he served on the praise team, acted as a greeter, and attending Bible studies. He loved going to musical concerts, acting and drama in various plays, participating in “The Promise” musical at Zion Lutheran Church, enjoyed singing in the choir while a student at Greenville College, and spending time with his friends. Brandon most enjoyed going on mission trips and spreading the joy and love of Christ.

In addition to his parents, Brandon is survived by:

A sister, Carrie Ferguson of Highland, IL

2 nephews, Aubrey Aubuschon and Gaige Ferguson

A niece, Mercie Ferguson 

Several aunts, uncles and cousin

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Irving Ray Deck and Stella Elizabeth (Neverdowski) Deck; his paternal grandparents, Christopher Charles Leonard and Dorothy Mae (Curto) Parsons; and paternal step-grandparents, Bill Grindley and Melvin Parsons.

Funeral services for Brandon will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 7, 2023, at Net Community Church, 1255 S. Hackman St., Staunton, IL. Rev. Derrick Taylor will officiate. Visitation will be at the church from 9:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in Elm Lawn Cemetery in Litchfield. Memorials may be made to St. John’s School of Nursing, Hearts United, or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
