Anthony Gerard Gutierrez, 70, of Venice, Florida, formally of Springfield, IL, passed away on July 21, 2024 at his home with his wife by his side. He was born on December 9, 1953 in Springfield, IL to Pedro and Stephina Gutierrez. He married Nancy Hahnenkamp-Gutierrez on October 12, 1996. She survives.
Tony is survived by his wife, Nancy, his puppy dog PiperJo, two sons and four grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Vicky and Stephanie Gutierrez, Barbara Schlebach, Susan, Steve and Joseph Gutierrez. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, two brothers, Chris and Paul John, and our boi (puppy) Paco.
Tony graduated from Springfield High School and continued on to receive his bachelor’s degree. He started his career at the Rock Island Police Department where in 1977 he became an undercover agent with the nickname “The Mexican”. He was accepted into the Illinois State Police Academy and retired December 31, 2007 as Master Sergeant #3220, his call number being 9-12. He has several news articles written about his success, he’s received medals and awards and his dedication to his work was phenomenal. He loved to travel and loved spending time on the ocean. He was an avid scuba diver.
Tony was the best husband.
When you were around Tony you felt special.
Graveside services will be conducted by the Illinois State Police Honor Guard at Edgewood Cemetery on Monday, August 12, 2024 at 10:00 a.m.
