Alvin Frank Whitsell, 79, of Litchfield, passed away Saturday, February 29, 2020 at 9:10 p.m. at St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield, IL. He was born Sept. 9, 1940 in Dixon, IL., a son of Frank and Nellie (Hays) Whitsell. Alvin served in the U.S. Army from 1958-1961 in Fort Richardson, Alaska, and Fort Bliss, Texas. Recently, he participated in the Honor Flight which was one of the most memorable days of his life. Mr. Whitsell was a graduate of Gillespie High School. He married the former Vera Klekamp on June 5, 1993 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mt. Olive and she survives.
He worked for the railroad dispatch for 39 ½ years with Chicago Northwestern, which later became Union Pacific. Mr. Whitsell loved the railroad and trains. He also enjoyed history and was a big trivia buff in that area. He was a world traveler as he enjoyed taking cruises with family and friends. He loved nature and animals; especially birds, cats and dogs.

1 daughter; Karen (Pete) Collins, Springfield, MO.
1 brother; Roger (Cathy) Whitsell, Rochester, IL
1 step-son; Delbert Obsorn
1 step-daughter; Sheila Shields.
7 grandchildren; Keaton & Marissa Jo Collins; Justin, Marissa & Alexis Shields; and Toni Osborn
Mr. Whitsell is preceded in death by his parents; 1 sister, Shirley Baugh; 1 brother-in-law, Larry Baugh; 1 nephew, Randy Baugh.
Funeral services will be held on Thurs., March 5, 2020 at 12:00 p.m. in Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. Family friend, Rev. Mark Harriss, will officiate. Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until time of service Thursday in Plummer Funeral Home. Cremation following the services. There will be a luncheon held at Zion Lutheran Church (1301 N. State St. in Litchfield) following the funeral services. The family suggests memorials to Adopt-a-Pet or Shriners Hospital in St. Louis.
