Alan Wayne Holderread, 66, of Hillsboro, IL, passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2026, surrounded by his family. He was born on November 23, 1959, in Litchfield, IL, a son of Robert and Agnes (DeVries) Holderread. Alan was a 1977 graduate of Litchfield High School. He married the former Jill Simmons on September 29, 1984, at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield, enjoying 41 years of marriage.
In his earlier years, Alan worked for Austin and Shrader Furniture Store in Litchfield. He later went on to work at St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield, where he retired after 38 years of dedicated service in 2024.
Alan was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting and fishing. Many of his best memories and greatest fishing stories involved wading in a trout stream alongside his wife and son. He enjoyed coaching his son’s youth baseball and soccer teams and also enjoyed a game of catch or hoops with his daughter.

One of Alan’s greatest joys was being “Poppy” to his three granddaughters, Mila, Olivia, and Halle.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Mark, and daughter Megan.
Funeral services for Alan will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. Deacon Lee Johns will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Hillsboro. Visitation will be held Saturday from 12:00 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home. An additional service celebrating Alan’s life will be announced at a later date.
Alan was a proud 5-year pancreatic cancer survivor. It was his wish that memorials be directed to the Montgomery County Cancer Association, 106 Pinnacle Point Dr., Hillsboro, IL 62049.
