Reba I. Schmidt

Reba Irene Schmidt, 89, of Decatur, formerly of Litchfield, passed away Wed., May 30, 2018 at 12:20 a.m. in Decatur Memorial Hospital.  She was born on Nov. 8, 1928 in Litchfield, IL, a daughter of Thomas Albert & Isabell (Short) Howard.  She graduated from Litchfield High School with the Class of 1946.  Reba married Billy Eugene Schmidt on May 25, 1950.  He preceded her in death on Sept. 14, 2006.  She was a homemaker all of her life.  While living in Pekin, IL, she was a member of First Christian Church. 

She enjoyed bowling on a team for several years and was a collector of cookie jars and dolls throughout her life.  While living in Dotham, AL, she volunteered her time as a Pink Lady at the hospital for several years.  She is survived by:

   3 sons,    Thomas Schmidt of Knoxville, TN

                  Michael E. (Gayle) Schmidt of Wiscasset, ME

                  David S. (Cheri) Schmidt of Medina, OH

   1 daughter, Janet L. Schmidt of St. Louis, MO

   1 brother, Richard “Dick” Howard of Hammond, IN

   7 grandchildren

   6 great-grandchildren

   23 nieces and nephews

   3 sisters-in-law, Josie Howard, Maggie Howard & Delores Schmidt  

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 1 son, Robert A. Schmidt; 5 brothers, Albert Howard, Donald Howard, Joseph Howard, James Howard & Robert Howard; 2 sisters, Helen Shanks & Katherine Hale.

Funeral services will be held Sat., June 2, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield.  Rev. James Tinzmann, of St. Timothy United Methodist Church in Litchfield, will officiate.  Burial will be in Elm Lawn Cemetery in Litchfield.  Visitation will be held Saturday from 12:00 p.m. until time of service.  The family suggests memorials to the American Diabetes Association or PAWS Care of Montgomery County.
