Melvin Guy Parsons, 89, of Litchfield, passed away Saturday, May 25, 2019 at 11:25 a.m. in Heritage Health and Senior Care in Litchfield.
He was born May 4, 1930 in Litchfield, a son of Arthur Harold and Ethel Blanche (Wright) Parsons. He attended Litchfield Schools.
Mr. Parsons was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Army.
He married the former Florence Annabel (Harkey) and she passed away June 12, 1970.
He then married the former Dorothy Mae (Curto) Grindley on September 25, 1978 in Las Vegas, NV. She passed away December 29, 2017.
Mr. Parsons was an automobile mechanic. He was self-employed for several years doing business as P&H Mobil with business partners, Dean Parsons, brother, and Jocko Hartke until his passing and then as Parson’s Auto Service on the corners of old historic Rt. 66, West Tyler Ave., and 4 lane 66. He then went to work for Wal-Mart in the automotive department for several years and retired from there.
Mr. Parsons was a member of the VFW Post #3912 and a lifetime member of the Litchfield Moose Lodge #1634.
Mr. Parsons is survived by:
4 Sons; Danny (Janice) Leonard, Sam (Donna) Leonard, Johny (Melissa) Leonard and Ricky Grindley all of Litchfield.
2 daughters; Kitty (Charles) Leonard-Sneed of Spring, TX and Marla (Joe) Mitchell of Broken Arrow, OK
10 Grandchildren; Jackie Mae (Brian) Cowley, Danny Leonard, Jr., Sherry (Dan) Weeding, Adrienne (Aaron) Forst, Tyler (Morgan) Mitchell, Carrie Cooper, Brandon Leonard, Bruce Leonard, Heather (Rick) Copple and Ryan Grindley. 21 great grandchildren and 16 great great grandchildren.
In addition to his wives, Mr. Parsons is preceded in death by; a son, Ronald Gordon Parsons, a brother Harold Dean Parsons, and a sister, Dorothy Helle.
Funeral services for Mr. Parsons will be conducted Thursday, May 30, at 11:00 a.m. at the Plummer Funeral Home. Deacon Lee Johns of St. Agnes Catholic Church will officiate and burial will be in the Elm Lawn Cemetery in Litchfield. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. The family suggests memorials to the Litchfield Veterans' Memorial Garden Fund.
