Martha Sperry

Martha May Sperry, 76, of Litchfield, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Wed., Sept. 25, 2019 at 2:08 p.m. in HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.  She was born on June 11, 1943 in Cedartown GA, a daughter of Lawrence & Mary (Teat) Sowell.  Martha was a graduate of Cherokee County High School in Centre, AL.  She married Donald Leroy Sperry on June 25, 1960.  He preceded her in death on June 26, 2018.  Martha was the Activities – Marketing Director for McDonalds in Litchfield where she spent years enriching the lives of children throughout the community.  She was involved in numerous volunteer and fundraising events including:  Girl Scouts, Litchfield Sports-Boosters, March of Dimes, Montgomery County Cancer Society, as well as the Miss Litchfield Pageant. Martha was honored as the Litchfield Veiled Non-Profit and the Litchfield Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year.   Martha was always generous of her time and putting others before herself. She loved her family, friends, and most of all her grandchildren. Martha was an avid Alabama “Roll Tide” Football Fan.  She is survived by:

3 daughters,          Gina Sperry (Andrea) of Newport, RI

                              Kerri (Dan) Frerichs of Sullivan

                              Lori (Dan) Heise of Litchfield

7 grandchildren,     Rory Sperry; Shawn Sperry; Tyler (Kayleigh) Frerichs; Chad (Nichole) Frerichs; Nick Frerichs; McKenzie (Devin) Brakenhoff; Connor Heise

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Donald; & ½ sister, Jeanette Pruitt.

Funeral service for Martha will be held on Tues., Oct. 1, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in Holy Family Catholic Church in Litchfield.  Fr. Dan Willenborg & Deacon Lee Johns will officiate.  Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery in Litchfield.  Visitation will be held on Mon., Sept. 30, 2019 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. in Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield.  The family suggests memorials to Coats for Kids or Litchfield Volunteer Fire Dept.
