Marilyn Rose Banovic, 88, of Litchfield, passed away Sun., May 27, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. in HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. She was born on Dec. 6, 1929 in Mt. Olive, IL, the daughter of John Henry & Catherine (Gorsich) Zubal. Marilyn was a member of Holy Family Catholic Parish in Litchfield. On July 22, 1950, she married John Joseph Banovic in Mt. Olive, IL. He preceded her in death on Aug. 6, 1996. She was a licensed beautician and owned and operated Marilyn’s Beauty Shop in Mt. Olive. Over a 33 year span, she worked for the Illinois Department of Transportation in Springfield as an office clerk and the Governor’s Office - State of Illinois in Washington D.C. while her husband, John, served as Secretary - Treasurer for the United Mine Workers of America. Marilyn enjoyed mowing her lawn, watching Cardinal’s baseball and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by:

2 sisters-in-law, Ruth Zubal of Mt. Olive;
Norma Zubal of Edwardsville
2 grandchildren, Sarah (Ryan) Weatherford of Litchfield
Andrew (Katie) Banovic of McDonough, GA
2 great-grandchildren, Sydney & Kaden Weatherford
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; 4 brothers, Clarence Zubal, LeRoy “Babe” Zubal, John Zubal & Gib Zubal.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Sat., June 2, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in Holy Family Catholic Church in Litchfield. Fr. Dan Willenborg will preside. Burial will be in Union Miners Cemetery in Mt. Olive. Visitation will be held Friday from 4 – 7 p.m. in Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. The family suggests memorials to Holy Family Catholic Church in Litchfield or Union Miners Cemetery in Mt. Olive.
