Marian Hampton Obituary

Marian Louise Hampton, 86, of Ellisville, MO., formerly of Litchfield, passed away Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 7:45 a.m. at the Mercy Hospice South – DeGreef Hospice House in Sappington, South St. Louis County, MO.   

Born in Claremont, IL a daughter of J. Ferd and Clara (Benefiel) Clark.  A graduate of LaJunta High School, LaJunta, CO Class of 1949.   She worked as a secretary for several years while living in Colorado.

She married Earl William Campbell on June 2, 1949. Mr. Campbell passed away November 13, 1968. Marian then married her first husband’s Army buddy, Carl Eugene Hampton.  Carl’s first wife, Donna Jeane (Hartgrove) passed away November 25, 1968, and Carl and Marian continued to communicate. They were married June 5, 1970, moving Marian and her children to Litchfield.  Carl passed away December 14, 2013.

Marian was employed by Jubelt’s Variety Bakery – Downtown, The Litchfield News-Herald, and her favorite place to work was H.E. Nursery Garden and Landscape Center, as she enjoyed gardening and her outdoor floral areas at home.  

Marian was active member of First Baptist Church of Litchfield for several years.  Marian was a current member of New Hope Baptist Church in North Litchfield Township.   Over the years Marian served as a Sunday School Teacher and helped each year with Vacation Bible School, Women’s Ministries, Deacon’s wife, and enjoyed singing in the church choir.  Marian participated in other facets of church activities and loved serving her Lord.  Marian’s other service ministry was Campers on Mission. She and Carl have traveled the country in their fifth wheel mobile home to help work on church building projects.  In 2017 Marian received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Campers on Mission Foundation for years of devoted service., In addition to Campers on Mission, Marian was a member of the National Campers’ and Hikers’ Association and the Good Sam Club.   Additional activities that Marian enjoyed were cooking and baking.

Marian is survived by:

2 sons: Gary (Patty) Hampton of Litchfield, IL., Michael W. Campbell of Chesterfield, MO

4 daughters; Carol (Alan) Berry of Hillsboro, IL., Patty (Joel) Londeen of Wildwood, MO., Mary Hampton of Hillsboro, IL., and Connie Hampton.

8 grandchildren; Scott (Traci) Deaton of Altamont, Il., Brad Deaton of Litchfield, IL., Sarah Deaton of Hillsboro, IL., Jon (Hope) Londeen of Ellisville, MO., Carissa (Blake) Hammann of Carlinville, IL., Sam Hampton of Hillsboro, IL., Kati (fiancé, Chris Fenton) Hampton of Litchfield., and Jordan Campbell of Chino Hills, CA.  4

5 great grandchildren; Savannah, Walker and Annalie Deaton, Henry and Harper Hammann.

In addition to her husbands Earl and Carl, Marian is preceded in death by her parents, three brothers; Robert, Ralph and Tom Clark, and her sister Virginia LeMay.

Funeral Services for Marian L. Hampton will be held Thursday, September 19, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield, IL.  The Rev. Roy Eller, Pastor of the New Hope Baptist Church will officiate and burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery in Litchfield.  Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.  The Family suggests memorials to the New Hope Baptist Church or Campers on Mission.
