Margaret Pauline Carter, 95, of Litchfield, IL, formerly of Decatur, passed away Sun., Apr. 28, 2019 at 7:15 a.m. in Heritage Health Therapy & Senior Care in Litchfield. She was born on Dec. 31, 1923 in Chicago, a daughter of Edward H. & Ruth (Andrews) Mercer. She was a graduate of Stephen Decatur High School. She married Richard Allen Carter on Sept. 30, 1950 at her home in Decatur. He preceded her in death on Apr. 6, 1996. She was a homemaker all of her life. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Decatur for 80 years where she was in charge of the visiting committee for shut-ins, altar flowers and had taught Sunday School. The last eight years, she was a faithful attendee of Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield. While living in Decatur, she served on the Decatur Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and was a member of The Decatur Club. Church was a very important part of her life and her faith was a priority for her. She was a loving caregiver, enjoyed cooking, gardening and working crossword puzzles. She was loving and kind to everyone. She is survived by:

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; son-in-law, Steven Gartner; 1 sister, Marilyn Mercer & a nephew, Edward Mercer.
Funeral services will be held Fri., May 3, 2019 at 11 a.m. in Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield. Rev. Fred Kraemer will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Fairlawn Cemetery in Decatur on Saturday, May 4th at 11:00 a.m. Family & friends will line up at Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield at 9 a.m. on Saturday to go in procession to the cemetery at 9:15 a.m. Visitation will be held Thursday from 4 – 7 p.m. in Plummer Funeral Home. The family suggests memorials to First Presbyterian Church in Decatur or the Onward In Faith Campaign at Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield.
