Joan Hendrix Whitlock, 93, of Litchfield, passed away on Sat., Oct. 20, 2018 at 3:37 p.m. in Heritage Health Therapy & Senior Care in Litchfield. She was born on June 30, 1925, in Columbus, IN, a daughter of Raymond & Hazel (Talkington) Hendrix. Joan grew up in Indianapolis, IN and graduated from Arsenal Tech High School. She also studied music at Arthur Jordan Conservatory while in Indianapolis. Joan graduated from Greenville College in 1947 with a B.S. degree in Music Education. She taught Choir, and English & Humanities at Litchfield High School from 1954-1976. She was a member of St. Timothy United Methodist Church in Litchfield, where she served as chancel choir director for 25 years. She was also active in United Methodist Women & the Builders Sunday School Class. Joan was past President of the Litchfield Woman’s Club & active with Friends of the Library. She enjoyed quilting, reading, traveling, and attending music & theater productions. Joan married William Earl “Bill” Whitlock on Aug. 30, 1945, in Indianapolis, IN, in a double wedding including her sister Patricia Hendrix & Dr. John Mathewson. William preceded her in death on May 8, 2012.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents & her husband.
Funeral services will be held on Fri., Oct. 26, 2018 at 10 a.m. in St. Timothy United Methodist Church in Litchfield. Rev.’s Robert A. Herath & James Tinzmann will officiate. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery in Coffeen. Visitation will be held on Thurs. from 4 – 7 p.m. in Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. The family suggests memorials to St. Timothy United Methodist Church or Hearts United.
