Glenna Jean Lawrence, formerly of Litchfield, passed away Sat., evening, Nov. 25, 2017 in St. Louis, MO at the age of 89 years. She was born on Feb. 17, 1928, in Mattoon, IL, to Robert and Myrtle Peterson. She attended high school in Mattoon, IL. As a teen, she won a singing contest with the prize being an opportunity to record an album. She went on to form and perform in a singing quartet known as, “The Carolaires.” The group performed regularly on WLBH-AM radio in Mattoon. Glenna married James “Mark” Lawrence in Trilla, IL, on Apr. 1, 1945, and celebrated 59 years together until his passing in 2004. Together they operated Mark’s Heating and Air Conditioning in Litchfield for over 30 years. Glenna is survived by:

Granddaughter, Jill Zolman of St. Louis, MO
Grandson, Ryan Towell of Richmond, VA
Great granddaughters, Lexi and Tori Zolman of St. Louis, MO
Several nieces and nephews in Mattoon.
She was preceded in death by her brother, George Peterson and a sister, Dorothy Hendren, both of Mattoon.
A memorial service will be held Sat., Dec. 16 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church in Litchfield where Glenna had attended and enjoyed singing in the choir for many years. Visitation will be held Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service in the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Hospice Hearts in Urbana at www.hospicehearts.org
