Gerald Stanbery, 88, of Raymond, passed away Fri., Mar. 23, 2018 at 8:40 a.m. in Sunrise Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Virden. He was born on May 13, 1929 in Fayette County near Ramsey, IL, a son of Roy & Gertie (Hebel) Stanbery, Sr. He married Genevieve Heddrick in Aug. 1947. She preceded him in death in July 1962. He later married Doris Mae (Battles) Johnson on June 9, 1963 and she preceded him in death on May 28, 2013. Over the years he worked for Wabash, Norfolk Western & Norfolk Southern Railroads as a crane operator for a total of 42 years and retired on May 30, 1989. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Harvel where had participated in Lutheran Laymen’s League. He is survived by:

Roger (Carol) Johnson of Raymond
Rodney (Luann) Johnson of Farmersville
1 daughter, Pamela Stanbery of Springfield
1 brother, Jimmie Stanbery of Ramsey
12 grandchildren
22 great- grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his parents; both wives; 3 brothers, Dale, Leroy & Bobbie Stanbery; 2 sisters, Effie Williams & Arlene Rosenberger.
Funeral services will be held Tues., Mar. 27, 2018 at 11 a.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church in Harvel. Rev. Scott Busacker will officiate. Burial will be in Macon County Memorial Park in Harristown. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 10 a.m. until service time. The family suggests memorials to Trinity Lutheran Church in Harvel.
