Doris J. Brown, 94, of Springfield, formerly of Litchfield and Farmersville, passed away Friday, January 26, 2018, at 12:20 p.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
Born June 23, 1923 in Litchfield. A daughter of John Martin and Irene Gertrude (Yard) Miller. A graduate of Litchfield Community High School Class of 1941. She was employed at Montgomery Studios. She married Lester Paul Brown on April 27, 1946 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Litchfield. Mr. Brown passed away October 13, 2015. For 60 years she assisted her husband on their farm in Farmersville, IL. and retired in Litchfield.
Mrs. Brown was a member of Holy Family Parish in Litchfield and St. Mary’s Parish in Farmersville. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, Litchfield Food Pantry and Hearts United. She was well known for her gardening skills. She had a green thumb for flowers, especially African Violets. She and her husband, Lester, won many first place ribbons at the Montgomery County Fair and the Illinois State Fair. She enjoyed animals, especially cats. She enjoyed traveling, and along with her husband Lester, they toured many places throughout their many years together.

A son, Joe Eddy (Lesley) Brown of Wheaton, IL., A daughter, Janelle Bartletti of Springfield, IL
6 grandchildren; Eric J. Brown of Billings, MT., Emmy Brown of Chicago, Joseph L. (Jennifer) Bartletti of Mechanicsburg, IL., Nicholas (Jennie) Bartletti of Springfield, Jessica (Daniel) Havens of Kirkland, WA and Alex Perlin (Jerry Pearson) of Wheaton, IL
10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, Mrs. Brown is preceded in death by two brothers; Earl and Roy Miller and three sisters, Opal Bowles, Evelyn Friend and Dorothy Guy.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at 11:00 a.m.at Holy Family Catholic Church in Litchfield, IL. The Rev. Daniel Willenborg will preside and burial will be in the Elm Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
